SEO is not a flat-rate business.
The time and effort necessary to make a business rank and sell will vary greatly from company to company. Factors such as location, category, market direction, branding, niche, demand, popularity, and strengths and weaknesses all play a role in how challenging it will be to optimize ranking for a particular business.
Here @ Frederick Web Promotions we offer certain flat rates for specific local SEO services such as Google Maps Ranking (known known as Google Places aka Google Local Business Listings). But to get a company website to rank nationally or globally is a “whole ‘nuther ball o wax”.
Achieving top organic rankings is harder for certain genres and can be more difficult for certain geographical areas: It’s harder to rank in Los Angeles than it is in Boise Idaho; it’s harder to rank in New York than it is in Raleigh North Carolina. The neighborhood is just more competitive!
Many of our clients needs are simply only able to be met with an ongoing monthly fee for a long term Google ranking campaign, that advertising campaign will have specific targets to achieve in terms of ranking for X, then Y, then Z and involve gaining Google Trust for A, then B, then C.
All of the above is subject to our staying on top of the 20 or so changes in the algorithm Google releases every year. None of this is static: Facebook is a lot more important this year (in terms of improving your non facebook website ranking in Google) then it was last year. Next year something unforeseen will be important… that’s what you’re paying us for – to keep you competitive!

Any SEO provider who tells you otherwise is likely, not always but likely running a scam; cookie cutter, one size fits all, flat-rate, easy-tactic approaches simply don’t work.
Unfortunately, scamming SEO providers are a dime a dozen and heavily promoted by web hosts and domain registrars that desperately need the advertising money. And as with any service that is not well understood by the general public, scammers in SEO have had great success.

For a quality SEO service, researching your particular market and needs and devising a game plan is just the first step. Keyword selection, quality copywriting, and link building are the next phase, and these require day to day maintenance and upkeep to keep you on top once you get there.

• They refuse to take on more than one client from a particular category, location, and genre
• They serve as your overall public-relations representative
• They run their own publishing business and optimize their own websites
• They have very few select high-end client relationships
• They are constantly researching, analyzing, learning from, and doctoring their approaches
Ranking algorithms are always changing and improving; your SEO service provider must understand this and take diligent ongoing education very seriously. There’s no cheap and easy way out with search engine optimization, so beware of spending too little and expecting too much too quickly.
