Do It Yourself SEO Series

by ApexPredator on 2009/11/16

DIY SEO (do it yourself SEO) this is the first in a series of videos and blog posts I’m making to teach those who have the time to learn how to get thier company websites to rank in Google. It takes about 100 man hours to get a website to rank …nationwide, that *should be* @ $100 hr. Even at $20 hr that’s $2K over and above what you paid the web designer, not counting monthly maintenance fees.

What should you use? A conventional website or a blog?

Blogs Beat Websites in Ranking

no contest.

However most of my clients come to me because they have a website, but no matter if that website is pretty or not, functional or not, esthetically pleasing or not… doesn’t rank in Google. It doesn’t “perform” in Google search results.

So after suggesting minor modifications to the existing page (and those recommendations are based on the target keywords the company website is shooting for), Everybody gets a blog.

I also give EVERYBODY

  • a Blogspot.com
  • a Wordpress.com
  • a MerchantCircle.com

And if they have a existing website, like http://www.btmartincontractors.com , the Maryland General Contractor client of mine, I add a wordpress blog to the website like this: http://www.btmartincontractors.com/homeremodeling/

Every Maryland SEO client I have also gets an online photo album, several actually:

A picasaweb.com account, a flickr.com account, and a MSN Live Spaces account, and the video below helps show you how to set this upĀ  so it’s not so time consuming.

Why does SEO cost so much?

it’s TIME CONSUMING!!! It takes roughly 100 man hours to get s company to rank well for the county they do business in. Even more man hours if they want to rank on the first page for the entire state. At $3500 this is a bargain.
