How does Google Decide which one of these evenly matched opponents should be #1?

Coke vs Pepsi Only One Can Be Number One in Google

If all things were equal (not saying they are, this is just an illustration); both had the same market share, taste about the same, both buy TV Super Bowl Ad spots, both had high powered Madison Avenue Advertising Agencies, both had connected Public Relations firms, both paid of the same judges and senators, both had similar lobbying special interest smoke filled room types….

There can only be ONE #1

…Somebody has got to loose and someone has to win here. There is no getting around that face. There can be only ONE Number One!

How does Google decide?

Links Are Currency

If some other webmaster thinks enough of YOUR website to add YOUR link on HIS website… he just voted for you.

Multiply that a few thousand times (or in these titan fortune 500 company types multiply that by hundreds of thousands) and one of them will OUT VOTE the other.

The Public Decides!!!
Almost like American Idol

Very interesting you say? So how does that help me get my home remodeling company to rank #1 for the local google advertising market share I crave?

Google ranking is a war of attrition. If the site that is number one, right now is where YOU want YOUR company website to be…
He or she is there because of Google’s Trust Filter. They are number one for your local area, your local target market, your county because:

They had links and no one else did. Even if those were crappy links.

Reverse Engineer How They Came to be #1

This is not as hard as it sounds, all you have to do is train Googlebot to think of YOU and YOUR company website to be THE Authority on your product/ service AND your local area.

How?

You get more links pointing to YOUR company website than he has.

Links are currency… got a company Facebook Page?
